  • There are 128 intensive care beds at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
  • The UI Acute Care Clinic provides urgent care for patients with acute illnesses and allows patients to receive same or next day services.
  • The UI Medical Intensive Care unit provides comprehensive medical care for all critically ill patients.
  • The Trauma and Critical Care service is an American College of Surgeons verified Level I Trauma Center, admitting more than 1,400 patients for traumatic injuries each year.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was begun in 1974 and since then care has cared for almost 20,000 babies. The survival among all babies treated in the NICU is over 95%. UI Children's Hospital NICU is known worldwide for its expertise in advanced respiratory care, particularly the use of high-frequency ventilation.
  • The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) treats an average of 700 critically ill pediatric patients ranging in age from newborn to 18 years each year. Medical subspecialties include cardiology, GI, nephrology, hematology/oncology, neurology and pulmonology. Surgical subspecialties include cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, orthopedics, organ transplant (heart, liver and kidney) and trauma.
  • 30,982 total acute inpatient admissions between 2008-2009.
