Vaginal Cancer Clinic

The vagina connects the vulva (outside genitalia) to the cervix (the lower part of the uterus). Cancer of the vagina is rare.

There are specific types of cancer of the vagina:

  • Adenocarcinoma
  • Clear cell adenocarcinoma
  • Melanoma
  • Sarcoma
  • Squamous cell cancer

Experts at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center understand gynecologic cancer and work as a team to design the best treatment plan. A typical team is made up of gynecologic oncologists, radiation oncologists, social workers, and nurses. Our Cancer Center is one of only two in the state where patients are treated by board-certified gynecological oncologists. Treatment plans may include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Surgery
    • Laser surgery to remove the cancer, including LEEP (loop electroexcision procedure)
    • Local excision to remove the cancer
    • Partial vaginectomy
