- The Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization, awarded
the Gold Seal of Approval to the Primary Stroke Center in 2009.
- The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale--a clinical rating
instrument now used around the world by physicians and other medical personnel to document
the severity of stroke--was co-developed at The
University of Iowa. This scale has proven to be effective because of its ease
of use and strong predictive power.
- The Acute Stroke Treatment Classification system was developed by physicians at the University of Iowa and now is used around
the world in clinical research on stroke.
