The University of Iowa is the only institution in the state that conducts basic science research into the causes of and treatments for pain with a world-class array of clinical services for people needing help in managing pain. Our teams are drawn from world-renowned experts in cancer, anesthesia, pharmacology, bone and joint health, surgery, nursing, arthritis, and many other disciplines. Each team is created to focus on the specific needs of the patient. The University of Iowa is also a national clearinghouse for clinical research into pain.
Palliative Care Services is aware of the pain our patients
experience, and we strive to provide comfort and care throughout the entirety
of one’s life. The service aims to decrease suffering and increase quality of
life by embracing the emotional, social and spiritual needs of the patients.
