When you have a stroke, sometimes called a brain attack, your brain has suffered an interruption of its normal blood supply. Care for our stroke patients is centered in our Stroke Clinic.
Our stroke center team works to get you the kind of care you need immediately and follows up with long-term care to prevent further strokes and to rehabilitate your body to as close to its pre-stroke state as possible.
UI Stroke Center physicians are available around the clock for consultation with area physicians, helping with proper medication to optimize brain recovery, even before patients are transferred to UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Members of our stroke center have helped the nation's physicians better care for stroke patients by developing the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, an instrument to document the severity of stroke.
Members of our stroke clinic work with colleagues in a number of disciplines to help assess stroke risks and prevent stroke in otherwise healthy patients.
