Patrick Hartley, MD, MPH

Patrick Hartley, M.D., received his medical degree from University College Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Hartley completed his internal medicine residency training at St. Vincent’s Hospital and St. James’ Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Hartley then moved to Iowa where he completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He subsequently completed a residency in occupational medicine and a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. He is a Clinical Professor in Internal Medicine and in Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Iowa Colleges of Medicine and Public Health respectively. Dr. Hartley is board certified in occupational medicine.
Dr. Hartley has over 20 years of experience in pulmonary care and critical care medicine, and 15 years of experience in occupational medicine, safety, and health. Prior to coming to UI HealthWorks, Dr. Hartley served 15 years as Medical Director of the UIHC Workers Health Clinic. He continues to serve as Medical Director of the Firefighter and Police Officer Disability Evaluation Program and as Medical Director of the Occupational Medicine Clinic, both at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is also a staff physician in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Brenda S. Buikema, MD, MPH

Brenda S. Buikema, MD, received her medical degree from the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Buikema completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and has served as a staff physician and Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Internal Medicine, in the division of General Internal Medicine. She subsequently completed a residency in Occupational Medicine at the University of Iowa as well as a Masters in Public Health at the University of Iowa, College of Public Health. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine at the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine and at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Dr. Buikema has also previously worked as a hospitalist at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Dr. Buikema is currently a staff physician at UI HealthWorks in North Liberty.

Tracie Abbott has been with UI HealthWorks since October 2000. She specializes in providing occupational medicine services, including the treatment of work-related injuries as well as pre-placement physicals and screening and testing services.
Abbott completed her MSN/ARNP degree from the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She previously worked at UI Hospitals and Clinics as an RN in the departments of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Dermatology, and Urology.
