- Dr. Michael Giudici created a new procedure that eliminates the scarring from a pacemaker implantation. The new technique changes the placement of the pacemaker and only requires two small incisions.

- Roger Batchelder was clearing trees from his neighbor's property on Halloween when the wind changed directions and the trunk of a tree began falling toward him.

Football Caused One-Third of Concussions at Iowa Universities Last Year

- Student-athletes at Iowa’s three state universities suffered twice as many concussions in practice as they did in games or competitions in 2011-2012, according to a Gazette review. Dr. Andy Peterson leads a UI concussion clinic every Monday for student-athletes with fresh concussions and those who have ongoing concussion care.
