Stress is a normal part of life. Meditation has long been used to help people optimally cope with life’s stressors. Over the past few decades, a substantial evidence-base has emerged demonstrating the effectiveness of meditation practice in dealing with “normal stress”, as well as for the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders. The University of Iowa, Department of Psychiatry offers ongoing mindfulness meditation programs targeted to those with and without identified mental health issues.
The Women’s Wellness and Counseling Service (WWCS) provides state of the art evaluation and treatment of those mental health problems that are unique to women, especially around issues of pregnancy and childbirth and the post-partum period.
