Sarah JK

University of Nebraska
First Year

I was born and raised in Papillion, Nebraska, where I grew up playing kick-the-can and catching fireflies. In college, I studied Women’s Studies and Biology, and travelled extensively with the Cornhusker Marching Band-Go Big Red!And although I loved learning about science and medicine, I discovered that I did not have much in common with my Pre-med colleagues. So I happily went off to graduate school instead, starting my PhD in Medical Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I loved teaching, but I never could shake my interest in clinical medicine. So, despite the fact that no one in my family was a physician, I returned to Nebraska to complete my medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. My professional interests include women’s healthcare, healthcare policy and reform, and medical education. My personal interests include playing competitive volleyball, participating in community festivals, and most of all, spending time with my husband and 2 giggling daughters.
