The team is comprised of a faculty cardiologist, a cardiology fellow and four senior internal medicine residents. While being active members of the CVICU, residents work alongside designated ancillary staff for their patients.
In toe, the team manages up to 16 high-acuity cardiac patients in the new CVICU, whose conditions range from cardiogenic shock and ST elevation myocardial infarction to aortic dissections. Residents will become comfortable with managing hemodynamics based on central catheter monitoring and ultrasound.
Each resident takes overnight call every 4th night with one day off per week. At night, overnight senior resident will cross-cover the inpatient cardiology teaching team.
