During medical school I enjoyed volunteering at the Free Medical Clinic in Iowa City. As a resident, I've had the opportunity to go back to the clinic and work with faculty there one-on-one. Some of my medical interests are women’s health, adolescent medicine, and LGBTQ health. I enjoy spending time with my son, Micah, and my husband Matt, who is a social studies teacher and also an Iowa City native.
I chose this field because I love the concept of care continuity in the prevention of disease and the management of acute and chronic illness. It's also just plain fun! The UI Family Medicine Residency Program is providing me with excellent training opportunities so that I can practice medicine the way I've always wanted to, all in a wonderful Mid-west community that is perfect for my family!
Family Medicine at the University of Iowa is a great, family friendly
program filled with residents who support each other and have fun
together guided by faculty who are dedicated to patient care and resident
development as physicians. Plus we're in Iowa City which provides plenty
of big city amenities in a small town atmosphere and is a great place to
raise kids. I can't imagine having gone anywhere else!
I love UI Family Medicine because we have great residents who balance work and play, we are lead by staff physicians who truly care about what we are learning and how we are doing, and we are able to learn and practice in an environment that supports evidence based and patient centered medicine.
From the moment I stepped on campus during my interview day, I felt that I was at home. This was exemplified by the warm welcome I received from the staff and residents. This family medicine program is special because it has all the benefits of training at an academic hospital with endless support to help each of us discover our individual path as a physician.
As a medical student at Iowa, I got to work on inpatient and outpatient teams in the family medicine department. No other program measured up to the great resident support and education I experienced at Iowa!
At first, I was worried about the small size of Iowa City, but there is really everything you need here! Lots of great restaurants, tons of local festivals and fun things to do, and very efficient public transportation.
I am so excited to be at UIHC, a hospital that serves both serves a large rural population, and offers the learning benefits of an outstanding academic hospital.
