Research Interests: My research interest currently involves renal targeted gene therapy in mice. I am working on a viral vector using the Adeno-associated virus 9 vector (AAV2/9) to target specific gene expression to the kidneys specifically the podocytes. I have well characterized the expression of AAV2/9 using a minimal nephrin promoter to drive GFP expression. We have found that the GFP appears to localize specifically to the podocytes in mice following systemic tail vein injection. Our future aims are to utilize this vector to re-introduce podocyte specific genes into mouse models of steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome.
