COPDgene COPD Research Study
A UI study on lung disease seeks non-smokers (defined as consuming less than 100 cigarettes, 52 cigars or 12 oz. of pipe tobacco in a lifetime) ages 45 to 85 who are non-Hispanic white or African-American. The study aims to look for genetic differences and learn why some individuals develop Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and others do not. Participation involves one or two visits to UI Hospitals and Clinics lasting 3-4 hours total.
