A Phase 3, Open-label, Multicenter, Randomized Study of Sequential Zevalin (ibritumomab tiuxetan) versus Observation in Patients at Least 60 Years of Age with Newly Diagnosed Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma in PET-negative Complete Remission After R-CHOP or R-CHOP-like Therapy

Principal Investigator: Lori Rosenstein, MD

Participants in this study have diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) or follicular lymphoma and must be at least 60 years old. Participants must also have received standard chemotherapy and their PET scans must show they had a complete response after chemotherapy.

This study is being done to see how well the study drug called Zevalin (ibritumomab tiuxetan) works and if it is safe to give. The study will compare the effects of the study drug with observation (no further therapy). Observation is standard care for cancer that is in complete remission. About 490 subjects with DLBCL from 80 sites worldwide will take part in this study.

Single Autologous Transplant Followed by Consolidation and Maintenance for Participants Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma or a Related Plasma Cell Malignancy

Principal Investigator:Guido Tricot, MD, PhD

Participants in this research study have been diagnosed with multiple myeloma or POEMS (Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal Gammopathy, and Skin changes, which is a syndrome in which patients have a plasma cell disease resembling multiple myeloma, and various organ changes).

The purpose of this research study is to find out whether relapse or disease progression will be delayed when an autologous stem cell transplant (a transplant using your own stem cells) is combined with consolidation and maintenance treatment after transplant, and how safely this treatment can be given in patients with myeloma who are 65 years of age or older.

All of the drugs that will be used are commercially available, are FDA approved for one or more cancers, and have been used in the treatment of multiple myeloma and/or other cancers. However, the drugs Doxorubicin, Etoposide, and Cisplatin are not FDA approved specifically for the treatment of multiple myeloma.

Approximately 41 people will take part in this study conducted by investigators at the University of Iowa. This study will only be conducted at the University of Iowa.

age group:65 to 99 years trial start date:April 18, 2013
