There’s a whole lot more behind the American obesity epidemic of the 21st century than a lack of willpower and eating too much. An alarming number of children and more than one-third of our country’s adults are overweight or obese due to a challenging interplay of environmental factors, sedentary lifestyle, unending over nutrition, genetic predisposition, and other contributors. Obesity increases the risk of a number of diseases and the cost of healthcare. The Science of Obesity will introduce you to innovative University of Iowa researchers who are dedicated to better understanding, prevention, and treatment of obesity and its complications.
