UI Health Care - River Crossing Pharmacy Joins Medication Disposal Program

The "TakeAway" program allows patients to turn in unused medications, both prescription and over-the-counter‚ so they may be disposed of properly. Most private disposal methods compromise the integrity of a community's water supply, while leaving unused medication in the home creates a higher risk for abuse or misuse.
The "TakeAway" pharmacies collect the unused medications in a specially designed waste bin and ship them to a medication disposal facility.
The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City is also participating in the program.
