The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) has selected UI Hospitals and Clinics for the 2011 Diversity in Cardiology Award. The award, presented last Friday in Washington, DC, is given to institutions that demonstrate sustained commitment and outstanding progress in diversifying the cardiovascular manpower of this nation. In the first half of the decade (2000-2005), the UI trained one minority cardiologist. However, in the latter half of the decade (2005-2010), a total of eight cardiovascular specialists have trained or are currently being trained at the university. Additionally, two cardiologists were recruited to faculty positions during this recent period.
