UI Physicians Named as Leading Ophthalmologists

Two physicians in the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences have been named among the nation's "135 Leading Ophthalmologists" by Becker's ASC Review.

Keith Carter, MD, professor and head of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the UI Carver College of Medicine, appears on the list. Carter has also served as a trustee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and as AAO meeting committee chair for ocular tumors, pathology and orbit and lacrimal plastic surgery.

The second Iowa physician included on the listing, Edwin Stone, MD, PhD, leads the UI Institute for Vision Research and Carver Family Center for Macular Degeneration. He specializes in molecular genetics of inherited eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, hereditary glaucoma, autosomal dominant RPE dystrophies, Leber congenital amaurosis, Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy and hereditary corneal dystrophies. Stone also is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.
