UI physicians and researchers literally wrote the book of guidelines for diagnosing and caring for people who have had a stroke. These guidelines were first published in the journal Stroke: the Journal of the American Heart Association by a panel led by UI neurologist Dr. Harold Adams. The recommendations strongly supported the intravenous delivery of an approved clot-busing drug remains as the most beneficial proven intervention for ischemic stroke.
