All UI Health Care faculty, staff, and volunteers are eligible to receive a recognition award through a program called "Making a Difference." The focus of the recognition program is to support and promote the special efforts that make a difference to our patients, their families, our co-workers, and the public we serve reflecting our commitment to innovative care, excellent service, and exceptional outcomes.

All nominations will be reviewed by UI Health Care Human Resources and awarded at the appropriate recognition level. Nominations can be submitted by faculty, staff, volunteers, patients or visitors.

"Making a Difference" Recognition Levels

The "Making a Difference" recognition award program is open to all UI Health Care employees. It offers three levels of recognition:

Level 1: The recognized staff member receives a personal written thank you note from the nominator and from his or her supervisor to recognize a job well done within the framework of assigned job responsibilities - for example, when a patient thanks their caregiver for the exceptional care they received.

Level 2: The recognized staff member receives a personal written thank you note from the nominator, a pin, a thank you note and small gift from the department manager to recognize an activity that went beyond the scope of regular job responsibilities - for example, the caregiver came in on days off to render service to the patient or provided a service that is not a regular part of care.

Level 3: The recognized staff member is eligible for a CEO Award when an activity was completely outside the expectation of his or her job responsibilities and was taken on willingly and voluntarily—for example, the staff member assisted a patient’s family with food, clothing, and shelter or helped the family make end-of-life requests possible. The staff member receives a personal written “thank you” note from the nominator and from his or her supervisor, a special pin, a certificate, a gift and recognition by hospital leadership.
