An outstanding feature of the Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is the camaraderie among residents. Residents enjoy many activities together, including conferences, annual parties, and casual get-togethers.
The Iowa Psychiatric Society (IPS), the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists (AACP) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) conferences are among resident favorites.
Each year, there is a gathering to welcome incoming residents.
A tradition has been to carve pumpkins the week before Halloween, and then to have a costume party Halloween weekend. Other annual activities include super bowl parties, white elephant gift exchanges, and charity events such as the Doc Dash and Trivia Night.
