  • Hometown: Des Moines, IA
  • Undergraduate School: University of Iowa
  • Graduate School: Oregon Health & Science University Medical School: Touro University
  • Before Medical School (list items you enjoyed doing, jobs you had, etc): After finishing undergrad at Iowa, my wife and I moved to Portland, OR, where we enjoyed all that the Northwest has to offer while in graduate school. I also became a product tester for Nike, picked up snowboarding and golf habits, participated in the Texas Hold 'Em craze, failed at surfing, and met a lot of great friends that I am still in contact with. And did some research.
  • Medical Interest: All areas of Neurology fascinate me, although family history and exciting new developments make Multiple Sclerosis one of my particular interests. I am also enjoy Neuroradiology, Stroke, and Sleep Medicine.
  • Nonmedical Interest: Outside of medicine I love just about any activity with my wife Kelli and son Linus. Except changing diapers. I also enjoy spending time with extended family and being the family cribbage champion now that we are back in Iowa. Although busy as an intern, I am still thoroughly addicted to golf and trying to maintain some semblance of a soccer or basketball game.
  • Why Iowa? People, Tradition, Focus. During the interview process, I was impressed with how welcoming and engaged the administration, faculty and residents were. I really felt like I could see myself here. Iowa has a storied tradition in Neurology, and I wanted to be a part of it. I felt that of all the impressive facts and promising developments I heard about on the interview trail, Iowa focused on what was important to me at the resident level: educating and producing fundamentally sound clinical neurologists.
  • Future Plans: I would like to work in an environment with a combination of academics and clinical teaching responsibility that also allows me to spend time with my family. I have been fortunate to work with some great Neurologists recently, and I hope to continue to work with them in the future.
