Administrative activities, including strategic planning, educational planning of conferences, didactic sessions and research, which are shared among all Internal Medicine Fellowships, are developed in the Department of Internal Medicine.  In this environment Program Directors can effectively communicate about issues and decisions that impact all of the fellowships.

The fellowship faculty are committed to self-directed learning. The fellow will have one half day per week for personal educational enrichment. During this time, the fellow will also complete a quality improvement curriculum and a case for submission to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine national meeting.

The palliative medicine fellowship program is one year and consists of rotations of:

  • 2 weeks orientation
  • 6 months divided between:
    • Inpatient Consult Team
    • Ambulatory Care
  • 3 months divided between:
    • Hospice unit
    • Home Hospice Care
    • Hospice in Long-term Care
  • 1 month divided between:
    • Peds
  • 1 month, 2 weeks divided between:
    • Electives
