Core Competencies

The goal of our core Infectious Disease Training is to equip fellows with the expertise needed for unsupervised practice along the 6 defined competencies of the ACGME. The Clinical Competency Committee, Program Director, Assistant Program Director and all divisional clinical faculty assist in the evaluation of fellows’ trajectory of learning and performance. Specific knowledge, skills, behaviors and attitudes required for Core Competencies are listed below:

Approximately every 2 weeks the Internal Medicine Department holds an interdisciplinary fellows’ conference which includes discussions on topics noted below over a 2-year cycle.   Some of the topics covered include:

  • Ethics
  • Medical informatics
  • Pain Management
  • Statistics
  • Coding and Billing
  • Sleep Deprivation
  • Quality Improvement/Patient Safety
  • Clinical Epidemiology
