Task Force 3: Training in Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology
All fellows complete at least 6 months in the cath labs. An additional two months are available for fellows during the UIHC intensive care unit and heart failure rotations. Fellows receive extensive training in vascular access, left and right heart catheterization, diagnostic coronary angiography, invasive hemodynamics, and RV biopsy. A weekly Cath Conference is held during which faculty and fellows present teaching cases and review angiographic and hemodynamic findings, discuss diagnostic and management issues, review complications and promote discussion of specific cardiology topics pertaining to invasive cardiology. Fellows seeking certification in Interventional Cardiology must do an additional year of training.
