I have always loved the Midwest and I can’t seem to leave it. I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska with a younger sister and brother, but then moved to Chicago for college. I attended the University of Chicago for both my undergraduate and medical school. I was very involved in underserved medicine while in medical school and did a Human Rights Fellowship in Fond des Blancs, Haiti working on community health projects around children’s’ rights and HIV.
My interests in international health and healthcare disparities led me Family Medicine and I decided it was time to head a little closer to home and ended up in Iowa City. I am very excited to cheer for the Hawkeyes, but come 2011 when Nebraska enters the Big 10 Conference, it will be a little harder to be a Cornhusker fan here. I got married in April and my husband is currently a General Surgery resident at UIHC.
I bike to work everyday, which is fun but I am still adjusting from the flat Chicago to the hillier Iowa City. I also enjoy cooking and currently I am trying to master several different curry recipes.
