About the Program

Casey Swenson, Radiology Resident reveals what brought him to radiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics instead of having a private practice, like he once intended.

The University of Iowa's Department of Radiology offers superior training in Diagnostic Radiology. Our faculty, fellows and residents come from all over the U.S. and countries outside, making the Iowa experience a diverse and welcoming experience. Faculty in our department are routinely ranked among the Best Doctors®, and graduates of our programs go on to serve distinguished careers in both academic and private settings.  We offer:

  • state-of-the-art equipment
  • exposure to all aspects of diagnostic imaging, including interventional techniques
  • exposure to wide range of clinical cases
  • graduated responsibility where junior residents receive greater supervision and seniors gain more autonomy and develop their own supervisory and leadership skills
  • formal instruction in radiation biology, radiologic physics and nuclear medicine
  • opportunities for research that will enable residents to develop and complete a research project of their own design
  • a team of faculty dedicated to your success
