What to Expect
For the residency class that will matriculate in the summer of 2015, applicant interviews will be held on Thursdays during October, November, and December (2014). A typical itinerary includes breakfast, a program overview and tour of the facilities with a senior resident, one-on-one appointments with key faculty members from both departments, and lunch with the residents. Key faculty members may include any or all of the following: the program director of the Family Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program, the assistant program director of the Family Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program, the directors of the categorical residency programs for each department, and the heads of each department. We strive to have all of our residents meet each applicant, when possible.
If an applicant is in Iowa City the night before their interview, a dinner hosted at a resident's home with the residents will be arranged. The dinner is an opportunity for applicants to meet us in a less formal setting than the interview day, and to have some of their questions answered.
Accommodations are provided.
Candidates are ranked based on their academic record, recommendations, professional background, personal qualities, and interviews.
