Inpatient Rotation: Internal Medicine Wards - VAMC
Three teams, each comprised of 1 faculty, 1 senior resident, and 2 interns, admit, diagnose and manage a largely male population of veterans with conditions that span the full breadth of internal medicine. The team takes care of patients on the general wards and in the 10 bed ICU. ICU patients are staffed with a pulmonary/critical care faculty and fellow during daily ICU rounds.
The senior resident on the team also serves as a consultant for surgical and psychiatric services requesting a medicine consult.
Each inpatient team admits daily, with a team cap of 14 and an intern daily cap of 5. Each intern takes an overnight call every 6th night with a night float senior.
