Exposure to other systems of health care on a clinical level is an effective way to internationalize the training of new American physicians. The Family Medicine department has partnered with medical institutions in Russia, Japan, China and Korea in providing an exchange program in clinical medicine for young physicians. Each site has a special area of focus: rural health, primary care and integrative-complimentary medicine, geriatrics and women's health. Recent residents have participated in Haiti relief with Community Health Initiative (World Wide Village) in the town of Leogane.
