We interview about 40 candidates for 5 positions beginning late October and ending in mid January. Orientation for all new residents begins June 24th, so you must be available for that start date and be licensed in Iowa by June 30th.
I got an interview! Now what?
- What should I expect the night before my interview?
The program will provide one nights lodging and make a reservation for you at the Sheraton Hotel downtown. A couple of residents will meet you in the hotel lobby to take you to dinner the evening before your interview. Dress is informal. Casual attire – no tie or skirt needed.
This dinner is an opportunity for you to meet some of your potential future colleagues, get an overview of the program, and get many of your questions answered. Don’t be shy about asking about the things that are on your mind.
- What should I expect on the interview day?
We will meet you in the main entrance of the hospital between 7:20 and 8:20 am, depending on which day of the week you are visiting.
The components of your interview day include: an overview of the program, a meeting with the department chair, a tour of the facilities by one of the chief residents, an interview with the program director or assistant program director, interviews with several other AP and CP faculty, and lunch with current residents. Some interview days will begin with attendance at a resident conference. Generally, your interview day will end between 2:00 and 3:00 pm.
