The uterus is made up of different tissue types that can give rise to different kinds of uterine cancer. Endometrial cancer is the most common kind of uterine cancer while uterine sarcoma is a rare cancer of the muscle and supporting tissues of the uterus.
Experts at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center understand gynecologic cancer and work as a team to design the best treatment plan. A typical team is made up of gynecologic oncologists, radiation oncologists, social workers, and nurses. Our Cancer Center is one of only two in the state where patients are treated by board-certified gynecological oncologists. Treatment plans may include:

- Radiation therapy
- Hysterectomy: removal of the uterus
- Bilataeral salpingo-oophorectomy: removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries
- Pelvic lymph node dissection: removal of some lymph nodes from the pelvis
