Eye Cancer

Eye cancer is any cancer that forms in the various parts of the eye. Melanoma is the most common type of primary cancer, or cancer that starts in the eye. Other types of eye cancer include:

  • Intraocular lymphoma - begins in the eyeball. Most are non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
  • Melanoma of the eye - a variation of skin cancer. The tumor may be surgically removed and is usually not dangerous if it is treated early.
  • Retinoblastoma - a cancerous tumor of the retina

Experts at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center understand eye cancer and work as a team to design the best treatment plan. A typical team is made up of surgical, medical, and radiation oncologists, as well as social workers and nurses. Treatment plans may include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Laser therapy - uses high-intensity light to destroy cancer cells
  • Radiation therapy
  • Surgery
