The UI Hospitalist Service provides care for patients who require hospitalization for the detection and treatment of illnesses.
This service works with other specialists and primary care physicians to direct and coordinate a patient's care. Our goal is to deliver prompt and complete attention to all patient care needs and safely transition patient care within the hospital and from the hospital to the community.
Hospitalist care is provided by a team—including doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners—that works with the patient’s primary medical doctor and community care team. A physician or community provider may contact the Hospitalist Care Service for assistance with any patient admitted to UI Hospitals and Clinics under our service of care.
Hospitalists deliver inpatient care in a variety of ways:
A growing number of studies support the value of hospital medicine, showing that hospitalists help to reduce patient lengths of stay, treatment costs, and improve overall efficiency of care.
