Inhalación de ántrax
El ántrax inhalado es particularmente letal. Aunque las esporas están inactivas al respirar, germinan cuando son expuestas a un medio húmedo y cálido como los pulmones. No todas las partículas son lo suficientemente pequeñas para pasar hacia los alvéolos o sacos de las vías respiratorias, pero aquellos que lo hacen comienzan a multiplicarse y se pueden esparcir al sistema linfático. Cuando las esporas germinan en los ganglios linfáticos se liberan algunas toxinas. Las partículas ilustradas no están a escala.
