Histiocito
Definición
Es un tipo de célula inmunitaria que ingiere sustancias extrañas en un esfuerzo por proteger al cuerpo de una infección.

Los histiocitos no viajan a través de la sangre. En lugar de esto, permanecen en una parte del cuerpo.
Los histiocitos se encuentran en muchos órganos y tejidos, entre ellos los siguientes:
- Cerebro
- Tejido mamario
- Hígado
- Ganglios linfáticos
- Placenta
- Bazo
- Amígdalas
Un número anormal de histiocitos lleva a que se presente una enfermedad llamada histiocitosis de las células de Langerhan, anterioramente llamada histiocitosis X.
