Prótesis
Definición
Es un dispositivo diseñado para reemplazar una parte faltante del cuerpo o para hacer que una parte del cuerpo trabaje mejor. Los dispositivos protésicos suelen usarse para reemplazar ojos, brazos, manos, piernas o articulaciones faltantes o enfermas.
Los dientes postizos se conocen como prótesis dentales. Un reemplazo artificial del hueso de la mandíbula se denomina prótesis maxilofacial. Los implantes de pene también son conocidos como prótesis penianas.
