Síndrome de Waterhouse-Friderichsen
Definición
Es una insuficiencia de las glándulas suprarrenales debido a sangrado dentro de dichas glándulas.
Causas
Esta afección es causada por una grave infección con las bacterias meningococos u otra grave infección por bacterias, tales como:
- Estreptococos del grupo B
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- S. pneumoniae
- Staphylococcus aureus
En muy pocas ocasiones, el síndrome de Waterhouse-Friderichsen puede ser causado por el uso de medicamentos que favorecen la coagulación de la sangre. Otras causas abarcan:
