Catarata: primer plano del ojo
Esta fotografía muestra un cristalino cubierto por una nubosidad blanca (catarata) sobre la pupila. Las cataratas son una de las principales causas de la disminución de la visión en los individuos de más edad, aunque los niños también pueden presentar cataratas congénitas. Con cirugía, es posible extraer las cataratas e implantar un nuevo cristalino y el paciente generalmente puede regresar a casa ese mismo día.
